Delta Assembly commiserates with army over killing of 16 soldiers

The Delta House of Assembly has commiserated with the Nigerian Army over the killing of 16 soldiers at the Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

This followed the adoption of a motion by Mr Festus Utuama (PDP-Ughelli South) at plenary on Tuesday in Asaba.

Presenting the motion, Utuama expressed sadness over the killing and commiserated with the immediate families of the slain soldiers and the Nigerian Army.

He also called for investigation, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.

He also urged the governor to set up a commission of enquiry to investigate and unravel the immediate and remote cause of the clashes between the two communities.

Supporting the motion, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Arthur Akpowowo, (PDP- Ethiope East), Majority Leader, Mr Emeka Nwaobi, (PDP-Aniocha North), Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Festus Okoh (PDP-Ika South), appealed to the Nigerian Military to temper justice with mercy, and not to embark on reprisals attacks on the community.

The soldiers were killed during a peace keeping mission over a communal clash between Okuama and Ukoloba in Bomadi LGA of the state.
