What Next for Earl Osaro Onaiwu?

By Kunle Awoniyi
The political landscape in Edo state has been buzzing with anticipation and uncertainty, as Earl Osaro Onaiwu, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has gone quiet following the controversial PDP primaries.
Onaiwu, a strong member of the G8 group that opposed Gôvernor Godwin Obaseki’s favoured candidate, Asue Ighodalo, made a splash when he entered the gubernatorial race.
However, his Guber ambition was scuttled by the PDP kangaroo primaries in Edo. Onaiwu’s silence is leaving many wondering what his next move will be.
Known for his emphasis on unity, peace, equality, and welfare, inclusiveness and respect for culture and tradition and upholding of values of the people of Edo State, Onaiwu seemed to bring a breath of fresh air to the political scene. Supported by the financial backing and support of well-meaning friends and political associates, his campaign held promise.
Yet, despite his efforts, victory eluded him, and resources invested seemingly went down the drain.
Ironically, Onaiwu had always been a staunch supporter and builder of his friends and political associates.
He sacrificed his intellect, resources, and contacts to elevate others within the political realm when they needed it most.
However, when he found himself in need, the desired support from friends seemed to be lacking, leaving him in a state of disappointment.
As the founding Director-General of Nigerian Governors Forum and later the PDP Governors Forum, Onaiwu has fostered extensive relationships within the party’s hierarchy.
He played a significant role in raising funds and garnering support from influential figures to help several governors secure their positions.
However, while attempting to build his own political base, he temporarily abandoned his flourishing business empire, which once included successful ventures in red carpet protocol, communications, transportation, and hospitality.
His company, Red Carpet Protocol Ltd, organised the 60th birthday party of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja in 2012. And he remains friends with President Tinubu, Vice president Shettima and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and he maintains unrestricted friendship with the Leadership of the national assembly as well as friendship on both sides of the political divide.
He remains a image consultant to many top politicians hence he has been dubbed the great Political connector.
Earl Onaiwu has also respectfully remained friends with ex Presidents Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo
Mohammad Buhari, Dr Goodluck Johnathan and former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.
In his prime, Onaiwu was counted among the likes of Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote, and Tony Elumelu in the business world. But as his focus shifted to politics, his presence in the business scene dwindled.
Now, those close to him, who have followed his journey for a long time, are left wondering about his next step. Will Onaiwu continue to chase his political dream or embark on a new path altogether?
The answer to this question remains uncertain, and Onaiwu himself may be grappling with it.
Politics can be a challenging journey, where success is not always guaranteed. However, Earl Osaro Onaiwu has proven his resilience and determination in the past.
It is possible that he may reassess his options, regroup, and reemerge with a different strategy or direction.
Alternatively, he may choose to continue pursuing his political aspirations, learning from the lessons of the past and forging ahead.
Whatever, he decides, only time will tell what lies ahead for Earl Osaro Onaiwu. His friends, associates, and the people of Edo state eagerly await his next move, wondering if he will continue along his political path or decide to chart a new course altogether.
Will he quit partisan politics to concentrate on his real estate . garment and hospitality business.
One thing is sure, his next steps will keep everyone guessing.
