A’Ibom: NSCDC reiterates commitment to capacity building 

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Akwa Ibom, says it is committed to the training of its personnel to ensure effective service delivery.
The State Commandant, Mr Eluyemi Eluwade, made the expression at the end of a two-day emergency rescue training for NSCDC personnel in Uyo on Thursday.
Eluwade said that training and retraining of personnel was the bedrock of effective service delivery in any organisation.
He said that it was necessary to upscale the emergency rescue skills of NSCDC personnel because of their roles in emergency situations.
”We are one of the first responders to emergency situations. This training is to equip our personnel with the skills to use modern ambulances.
”The participants were also trained in modern rescue techniques by experts from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),” he said.
The commandant urged the participants to utilise the knowledge gained during the programme in undertaking their duties.
Eluwade thanked the Federal Government for donating a state-of-the-art ambulance to the command.
He promised to apply good maintenance culture in the use of the ambulance, saying:”we shall ensure that it is used for the benefit of everyone. ”
Also speaking, Asim Bassey, the Head, Crisis and Disaster Management, said that the corps had been officially mandated to handle emergency rescue operations.
Bassey said that no fewer than 30 personnel participated in the emergency rescue training and use of intensive care unit ambulance.
“As a command, we have actually had several training programmes but this exercise is dear to our heart.
”This training became necessary because of the intensive care unit ambulance donated to us by the Federal  Government.
”Our personnel were given tips on emergency response and rescue operations,” Bassey said.
Mr Demian Egwu, the NEMA Team Lead,  said that the training was to prepare frontline officers to effectively respond  to any medical emergency.
Egwu said the personnel were trained in first responder medical stabilisation, such as scene arrival and scene safety, physical and mental concerns, airways management and breathing.
