Delta State Electricity Power Sector Bill scales 2nd reading

A bill for a law to establish Delta State Electricity Power Sector law on Tuesday scaled second reading at the Delta House of Assembly.
The Bill which is being sponsored by the Executive, was transmitted to the Assembly through a letter by Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori.
This followed the presentation of the bill, by the Majority Leader, Mr Emeka Nwaobi during plenary in Asaba.
Presenting the bill, Nwaobi (PDP-Aniocha North), said that the Bill sought to enhance power generation and distribution for the economic growth of the State.
He also said that the bill when passed would go a long way in beefing up the economic fortunes of the State.
According to him, this bill is apt and timely and has been the yearnings of the people of the State.
”When passed and signed into law, will help in addressing the security challenge in the State, ” he added.
Nwaobi therefore called on his colleagues to support the speedy passage of the bill, adding that the bill when passed would also help attract both local and foreign investors to the State.
Supporting the passage of the bill, Mr Festus Okoh (PDP-Ika South ), Mr Oloye Pereotu(PDP-Burutu II) and Mrs Bridget Anyafulu (PDP-Oshimili South), said apart from helping to boost economic activities, would attract developments to the State.
The Speaker, Dennis Guwor after listening to the contributions by lawmakers, passed the bill through the second reading.
Guwor thereafter referred the bill to the House joint committee on Power and Energy and Committee on Special bill for scrutiny.
At Tuesday’s plenary, the Delta State Registration of Private Veterinary Clinic (Amendment) bill, also scaled second reading.
