Navy gives free medical services to 1,000 residents in Bayelsa

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH, says it has given free medical services to no fewer than 1,000 residents of Toru-Orua community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
The Commander, Commodore Nanmar Lakan, disclosed this during the exercise in Toru-Orua on Tuesday.
He said that the essence was to promote cooperation with the host community.
Lekan said that the outreach was part of the navy’s corporate social responsibility projects to the community.
He further said that the exercise was part of the events to commemorate the 68th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.
“We are gathered to not only celebrate our proud history but also to extend a helping hand to the residents of our host communities
“As we embark on this free medical Rhapsody, we reaffirm our commitment to the well-being and prosperity of every Nigerian. We acknowledge that health is fundamental to human existence,” he said.
The commander said that Toru-Orua, occupied a special place in the heart of the navy as one of its host communities.
“So we are bringing not only medical services, we are also bringing compassion, care and solidarity, we are also promoting cordial relationship,” he said.
Lekan urged the residents to take full advantage of the outreach in the interest of their well-being.
In his speech, former governor of the state, Sen. Seriake Dickson, commended the navy for the free medical services brought to his community.
“When I was the governor, I was advised to build a naval facility to ensure more surveillance on the western flank of the state
“Today, I am happy to say that the navy is doing a good job in securing the waterways,” he said.
The Paramount Ruler of Toru-Orua, King Gusline Tounaregha, also commended the navy for choosing the community for the free medical exercise.
“This exercise is commendable, it will save a lot of lives. We urge you to bring more of this support to our people,” he said.
