Forum congratulates Oborevwori, seeks govt. intervention in epileptic power situation in Delta

The Delta State Forum of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and NGOs has called on Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta to critically intervene in the epileptic power situation across the state.
The Coordinator of the Forum, Mr Okezi Odugala, made the call in a one year congratulatory message to the governor made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Asaba.
Odugala said government can achieve this by starting the renewable electricity project in partnership with the private sector for constant electricity supply in the state.
He said the move would also help boost the socio-economic and environmental conditions of the state.
The forum also demanded an increment in the minimum wage of public servants in the state as economic conditions, they said, is biting hard on their people.
Odugala commended the governor for delivering standard projects as well as touching the lives of the people of the state in his first year in office.
He said that Oborevwori’s administration has some ongoing roads projects across the state with 171.49km and 85.30km length of drains.
He added that the governor also awarded a N78 billion road contract to Julius Berger, the first of its kind in state.
The coordinator called on relevant stakeholders to partner with the government to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.
”As the governor enters the second year of his administration, we use this medium to call for partnership of all stakeholders to take the state to the next level.
”We as citizens of the state have a civic and spiritual duty to make Delta better, because the governor cannot do it alone.
”We must also ensure we keep the peace and security of our communities as we partner with the government and security agencies to flush out criminal elements,” he said.
Odugala, however, assured the state government of the support of the forum.
“We want to assure the state government of our partnership as well as our independent monitoring of government programmes and projects.
“This is to ensure that the social contract of our governor encapsulated in the ‘MORE agenda’ is implemented fully for the benefit of the people of Delta,” he said. NAN
