IYC’s request is contained in a letter June 23, addressed to the Governor and signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Arigidi Toiboukumoh and Oyinbo Timibra respectively.
‘The letter read: ‘We, the members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Arogbo- Clan congratulate you on your emergence as the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state. Please accept our prayers for more administrative wisdom, sound health and peace.
”As the umbrella body of Youths in Arogbo-Ijaw Kingdom, We are in a position to represent the aspirations and desires of our people by our voice and by our actions.
”It is our sacred duty to serve the best interest of the Ijaw community and Ondo State in general. Today, the trumpet of duty has summoned us to address two issues that have been affecting our people, the people of Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State. ”
The letter added, ”First of those issues is the need to appoint a person from Ese-Odoย  Local Government Area asย  Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).
”It is an appeal we are making of Your Excellency in the name of the democratic and universal principles of inclusivity, equality and fairness, which, we believe, you represent and hold in high esteem, ” the letter stated.
”Your Excellency is aware that since the establishment of OSOPADEC, an Ijaw person has not been made Chairman of the Commission which mandate areas are Ese-Odo and Ilaje local governments. And having many competent persons from Ese-Odo, we appeal to Your Excellency’s sense of fairness to appoint one of us as Chairman of the Commission.
”The second issue We would like to bring to the attention of Your Excellency is the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise of the Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board( ODSUBEB) and the Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).
”It is a clear fact that public schools in the coastal region of Ondo State lack teachers and standard teaching facilities. We therefore appeal to Your Excellency to give special consideration to all applicants from Ese-Odo and Ilaje local governments areas in ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise.
”We hope and believe that Your Excellency will give the needed attention to our demands and take the steps expected of Your Excellency to addressing these concerns.”
