President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to the development and empowerment of the people of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Akwa Ibom people in particular and the nation in general.

The Senate President made the promise during the flag-off of the Akwa Ibom All Progressives’ Congress (APC) local government elections campaign at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio reportedly said, “Let me once again assure you all that I will continue to work for you, the state and Nigeria as a whole. The God that did uncommon things in this state when I was your governor is back again in the state.

“Those who thought there is no APC in this state would be shocked to their marrow with what is happening here today. The crowd here today is unprecedented. It is just a local government election campaign; what do you think will happen in the governorship?โ€, he asked.

Akpabio, who expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his support to the states, particularly the financial autonomy the local governments are now enjoying, used the flag-off and presentation of flags to party candidates to reel out the different empowerment and poverty alleviation programs he has influenced to the Senatorial District, assuring them of more to come in the future.

He also called on the state government led by Pastor Umo Eno to continue to rule the state with the fear of God, saying, “Let us pray for the governor of the state so that he will do the right thing during the forthcoming local government election by declaring the APC candidates winners wherever they won. He needs our prayers.”

Party flags were later presented to the local government candidates from the 31 local government councils by the President of the Senate, who assured them of his support and that of the party during the elections.

In his brief remarks, the state APC chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, thanked Akpabio for personally leading the campaign.

He said, โ€œThe presence of our leader today is no doubt a major boost to our party members all over the state. Let me assure our leader that we will all troop out in thousands to cast our votes for the candidates of our party on the 5th of October.”

Earlier in their speeches at the flag-off campaign and flag presentation to the candidates, Senators Bassey Albert and Ita Enang, respectively, expressed their appreciation to President Tinubu for standing by their son as the number three citizen in his government. They assured the President of the continued support of Akwa Ibom people for his government even beyond 2027.
