Music legend Diana Ross dazzled Nigeria’s elite at THISDAY’s 30th Anniversary Awards, performing timeless hits in a stunning star-studded show.
Music royalty graced the stage in Lagos as she delivered an unforgettable performance at the THISDAY 30th Anniversary Awards Night, held at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Monday.
The 80-year-old legend dazzled the star-studded audience, serenading them with her timeless hits and proving that her decades-long reign in music remains unshaken.
Stepping onto the stage in a glittery red gown befitting her iconic status, Ross immediately commanded the room with her presence. She opened her set with the classic anthem “I’m Coming Out”, sparking a wave of excitement as the audience sang along joyfully.
From there, the hits kept coming, as she transported the crowd back in time with soulful renditions of “More Today Than Yesterday”, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, “Upside Down”, and “Reach Out and Touch”.
Despite her age, Ross delivered a high-energy, half-hour set with the support of two backup dancers, who added vibrancy to the performance. She had the crowd on their feet, clapping and singing along to every lyric. Concluding her show with a song from her recent album, she left the audience with a heartfelt promise: “See you next time. If you need me, call me.” She was then graciously escorted off the stage by THISDAY Publisher Nduka Obaigbena.
The audience included Nigeria’s elite, with political heavyweights such as Nyesom Wike, Adams Oshiomhole, Governors Umo Eno and Uba Sani, and former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun in attendance.
Ross’s performance, a highlight of the evening, served as a poignant reminder of her enduring impact on global music and culture. The night was nothing short of magical—a celebration of excellence capped by the performance of a living legend, one that many will not forget in a hurry.
