Red Cross appeals for N200 million to fund humanitarian projects

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Lagos State Branch, has appealed for N200 million to sustain its humanitarian projects and operational costs.

The branch Chairman, Mrs. Adebola Kolawole, made the appeal during a news conference to mark the 2025 World Red Cross Day.

Kolawole said the funds would be channeled toward sustaining educational support for children in orphanages, health and care initiatives, emergency and disaster response efforts, capital projects, and infrastructure development.

She appreciated the support received from volunteers, donors, and partners, saying, “Your continued financial, material, and collaborative support breathes life into our mission.”

Kolawole requested a yearly government subvention to enhance the branch’s operational capacity and reach. She also acknowledged a N10 million support from the state Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The branch also received a two-acre plot of land from traditional leaders in Ibeju, earmarked for a youth resource center and residential quarters.

Branch Secretary, Mr. Olakunle Lasisi, highlighted the Red Cross’s critical role in collaboration with the state government, particularly during emergency response and disaster management.

Lasisi pledged the branch’s commitment to supporting the government and continuing its humanitarian activities. He also urged the government to support the Red Cross with ambulances to enhance emergency response.
