There is a new trade deal coming from the United Kingdom and the United States as London seeks to purchase ten billion dollars’ worth of Boeing ‘aircraft.
The announcement was made by US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick at the White House on Thursday.
Although the specifics of the purchase remain unclear, Lutnick indicated that the deal is a private-sector transaction. “I will let the airline making the purchase announce the details,” he stated.
The White House released a graphic outlining the general terms of the agreement, referring to $10 billion in “aircraft parts” purchases. However, it did not elaborate on the exact nature of the aircraft involved.
It remains uncertain what types of planes are included in the deal or whether the agreement involves firm orders or simply options. Boeing was not immediately available to comment on the development.
Virgin Atlantic, which operates Boeing aircraft, clarified that it was not part of the deal. British Airways, known for operating several Boeing widebody jets within its fleet, did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
The announcement had a positive impact on Boeing’s stock, with shares rising approximately 3.1% during midday trading.
