Eko bridge accident claims 2 lives, one Injured

A tragic accident occurred on Eko Bridge in Lagos on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of two dispatch riders.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident involved two fully loaded Mack trucks.
LASTMA’s Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, stated that preliminary findings suggest one of the truck drivers was driving at excessive speed while allegedly dozing off, leading to a loss of control.
The truck then collided with another moving truck, causing a 20-foot container to dislodge and crush the two dispatch riders.
Taofiq said that LASTMA officers responded quickly to the scene, rescuing one severely injured truck driver who was rushed to a nearby hospital.
He however noted that two other truck drivers absconded from the scene.
Also, LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and emphasised the importance of responsible driving.
He urged drivers to exercise caution and ensure their vehicles were roadworthy. Investigations are underway to apprehend the fleeing drivers.
The accident scene was attended by various emergency responders, including LASTMA, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, LSNSC, SEHMU, and the Police.
