Wike says Fubara must take concrete steps to demonstrate commitment to peace

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has revealed that suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara visited him alongside two APC governors to broker peace amid their protracted political feud.
Wike disclosed this on Monday during a media parley in Abuja.
“The President has called for peace severally and I can’t sit down when the President has called for peace and I say, ‘I don’t want peace’,” Wike said, explaining why he accepted Fubara’s peace overtures.
“Yes, he came with two governors, unfortunately, they are APC governors – I won’t pursue him. He said he wants peace and I also want peace.”
Wike however, emphasised that Fubara needs to take concrete steps to demonstrate his commitment to peace.
“You must take steps. Have you met the assembly people? There are leaders you should meet. It is not to say, ‘I want peace.’ You must show it by conduct and action,” the former governor advised.
Wike expressed disappointment over reports that Fubara’s supporters were still protesting and insulting people on television, questioning how Fubara could claim to want peace in such circumstances.
“If you are making peace, your people are demonstrating every day; if you are making peace, your people are busy on television insulting people. How do you feel in that case?”
The former governor believed Fubara was misled by other governors before the crisis escalated.
“Governors came pushing him, where are they now? I think the governors are enjoying their own,” Wike remarked, adding that he had warned Fubara earlier to avoid problems.
