Renewed Hope Initiative empowers farmers in Delta

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has emphasised the importance of agriculture in achieving food security, creating employment, and driving economic growth.
She made this statement during the distribution of farm inputs and financial grants to 400 farmers under the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Agricultural Support Program in Asaba, Delta.
Mrs Tinubu highlighted the significance of home gardening, saying, “Gardening, a time-honoured tradition, sustained our forefathers and can still benefit families today.”
She also stated that growing one’s own food promotes healthier eating, improves diet, and provides fresh produce.
“The beauty of it is that it’s not limited by gender or age,” she added.
The First Lady encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the initiative, saying, “I hope this gesture encourages you. I urge you to give your best as you return to your farms daily.”
She shared her personal experience of having a garden behind her house, where she will soon harvest crops like corn and vegetables.
The event was dedicated to empowering student farmers, women, youths, and cooperative farming groups in Delta State.
The wife of the Delta State Governor, Mrs Tobore Oborevwori, represented by Mrs Catherine Onyeme, expressed gratitude to Mrs. Tinubu for her visionary leadership and commitment to the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Mrs Oborevwori emphasised the need to empower farmers, saying “empowering farmers is not merely an intervention, it is a necessity.
”It restores hope, promotes food security, boosts household income, and positions farming as a viable and transformational enterprise.”
On his part, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Val Arenyeka, urged people to embrace farming for food sufficiency, stressing that without farmers, there would be no food.
Also, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Harry Triakriowei, commended Mrs Tinubu for including Delta youths in her Renewed Hope Initiative ¹.
The Renewed Hope Initiative aimed to boost food production, create employment opportunities, and advance the broader vision of prosperity for Delta and Nigeria.
Mrs Tinubu’s “Every Home a Garden” initiative encourages families to engage in home gardening to reduce economic hardship.
