FG launches ‘Yo! Health’ initiative to promote youth well-being

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the “Yo! Health” initiative, a youth-focused health awareness campaign aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and empowering young Nigerians to take charge of their health.
This initiative was unveiled by Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, on Thursday in Abuja.
According to Olawande, the initiative addresses growing health concerns among young people by providing access to credible health information, encouraging preventive healthcare, and promoting mental, sexual, and physical well-being.
“Good health is essential for young people to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society,” he emphasised.
Also, Professor Muhammad Pate, Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health, highlighted that the initiative aimed at raising awareness on critical health issues affecting young people and empower them to take greater ownership of their health.
He also emphasised the need to advocate for policy and behavioral change that improves youths’ health ยน.
Pate noted that Nigeria’s population is approximately 235 million, with 75 per cent below the age of 35 years, and 24 per cent falling into the youth mid-bracket.
The initiative has identified key challenges, including, mental health,ย a growing concern among young people, communicable diseases among others.
The “Yo! Health” initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Federal Ministries of Health and Women Affairs, civil society, international development agencies, the private sector, and youth organizations ยน.
