Hensard University workshop highlights community role in climate justice sustainability

By Peace Tasibo
Hensard University, in collaboration with the Climate and Sustainable Development Network (CSDevNet) and the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), successfully organised a workshop on climate action and sustainability.
The event brought together students, faculty members, and climate experts to discuss critical issues surrounding climate change and its impacts.
The workshop featured two key sessions. The first session, led by Professor Emmy Idegu, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Studies, explored the vital role of community women and youth in driving climate action.
Professor Idegu emphasised the importance of inclusive participation in sustainability efforts.
The second session, facilitated by Mr Abuh Stephen, focused on the impacts of climate change in Nigeria, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities that lied ahead.
Mr Stephen provided valuable insights into how communities could adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
During the workshop, participants engaged in a hands-on tree-planting exercise.
The group, which included Professor Femi Shaka (Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media), Professor Emmy Idegu, Mr. Abuh Stephen, Miss Peace Tasibo (a 200-level student of the Film and Multimedia department), and Comfort Prince Idongesit (a 100-level student of the Journalism department), came together to contribute to environmental sustainability.
The event which ended with a photo session, captured the commitment of Hensard University and its partners to promoting climate action and sustainability.
The workshop marked a significant step in fostering collaboration between academic institutions and global climate networks to address pressing environmental challenges.
