Gunmen kill woman, abduct husband in Edo

Tension has gripped the Ubuneke-Ivbiaro community in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State after gunmen killed a woman and abducted her husband.
The incident occurred on May 18 around 8:00 p.m. when the assailants invaded the residence of Mr. Arimazoya Abona.
According to sources, the gunmen shot the woman in the neck and took Abona away into the bush.
Neighbours, drawn by gunshots, rushed to the scene and found the woman lying lifeless in front of the house, drenched in her own blood. The abducted man, believed to be in his 70s, was whisked away by the attackers.
Community youths mobilised and pursued the gunmen into the forest, but their efforts yielded no success.
Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police and the Nigerian Army, responded swiftly and visited the crime scene. The woman’s body has since been deposited in a morgue.
The abductors have demanded a ransom of N100 million for the release of the abducted man.
Confirming the incident, CSP Moses Yamu, spokesperson of the police in Edo, said two suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.
