JAMB registrar denies allegations of conspiracy against South-East candidates

The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has denied allegations of conspiracy against candidates from the South-East zone following a technical glitch in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The glitch affected five states in the South-East zone and Lagos, sparking claims that the Board deliberately compromised the results of candidates from the region.
At a meeting with the management of the board, Professor Oloyede insisted that there was no deliberate attempt to undermine students from the South-East.
He emphasised that every candidate is Nigerian and has equal opportunities. “Every candidate is Nigerian and has equal opportunities,” he stated.
The allegations of conspiracy followed calls from lawmakers in the South-East zone for Professor Oloyede’s resignation over the technical glitch, which affected over 300,000 students.
The South-East Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives described the examination’s outcome as a “national shame” and called for the immediate suspension of those in charge of JAMB’s digital operations and examination logistics.
The lawmakers’ statement, signed by Igariwey Enwo, the caucus leader, read in part, “We call for the immediate suspension of those at the commanding heights of JAMB’s digital operations and examination logistics.
” The registrar of JAMB is said to be a good man, but then, leadership must carry consequences.
”We, therefore, call on the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, to do the needful by resigning his appointment to pave the way for a thorough examination and remediation of the root causes of this national shame.”
Professor Oloyede also expressed regret over the death of a candidate during the examination, and the meeting observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased.
