Edo community benefits from Dangote’s N15bn food programme

The Aliko Dangote Foundation on Saturday distributed 3,000 bags of rice to the people of Okpella community in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The distribution of the 10kg of rice each to beneficiaries which took place at the palace of Okuokpellagbe in Okpella, aimed at cushioning the effect of hunger among the community members.
Patrick Omokagbo, Director of Stakeholder Management at Dangote Cement Plc,  that this initiative was part of the company’s social responsibility to its host community.
“This is one of the social responsibilities of Dangote to its host community in view of the poverty in the land and economic situation in the country.
” Alhaji Aliko Dangote finds it necessary to provide free rice to the people.
”The rice distribution is all over the country, and 3,000 bags of rice are to be distributed to the people of Okpella,” Omokagbo said.
Responding on behalf of the community,  Mr. Akuri Afegbua, the Palace Secretary, commended the Dangote Foundation for the gesture, stating that it would help alleviate hunger in the community.
Also, Mrs Mercy Sado, one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the foundation for the intervention.
Another beneficiary, Mr Inusa Ahmed, described the initiative as timely.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation has launched a N15 billion National Food Intervention programme, aiming to distribute over one million 10kg bags of rice across the 774 local government areas of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
This programme is part of the foundation’s efforts to alleviate economic hardship faced by Nigerians.
