LP backs Obi’s coalition efforts, slams Julius Abure

The Labour Party’s National Caretaker Committee, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has approved Peter Obi’s participation in ongoing coalition meetings aimed at defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The party welcomes the coalition movement driven by the Nigerian people and reaffirms Obi’s right to contest the 2027 elections under its platform.
The Labour Party said it wholeheartedly welcomes the coalition movement and reaffirmed Obi’s unequivocal right to contest the 2027 elections under its platform, should the ongoing coalition efforts fail to materialise.
Senator Usman criticised some suspended members of the Labour Party led by Julius Abure for kicking against Obi’s participation in the coalition movement.
According to Usman, Abure and his cohorts who have been shown the exit door for their anti-party activities cannot question a move so clearly rooted in national interest aimed at dismantling the rudderless Tinubu administration.
The statement reads: “It is worth reiterating that Obi has consistently maintained that his interest lies solely in a coalition focused on eradicating hunger, insecurity, and poor governance, a vision that aligns squarely with the founding principles and aspirations of the Labour Party.”
Usman queried whose agenda Abure and his cohorts have truly been advancing, asking if they disagreed with Obi and the Labour Party that Nigeria was presently facing an unprecedented crisis requiring collective action to salvage.
The statement also criticised Abure’s reference to a purported 2024 national convention, saying it was self-convened, unlawful, and ultimately denounced by the Supreme Court of Nigeria as illegal.
The Labour Party advised the general public to disregard any statements emanating from Abure and his cohorts, urging them to rely solely on communications from the office of the National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman.
The statement reads: “For authentic and authoritative information regarding the Labour Party, the public is urged to rely solely on communications from the office of the National Caretaker Committee led by Distinguished Senator Nenadi Usman.”
