Oil Theft: Rivers community urges navy to maintain vigilance

The Asukama community in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State has appealed to the Nigerian Navy to sustain its fight against oil theft in the state.
The Chairman of the community council of Chiefs, Walter Nkot, made the appeal during a medical outreach by the Naval Outpost in Ikuru as part of activities marking the 69th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.
Nkot commended the Navy’s efforts against oil theft and pledged the community’s continued support.
“We commend the Navy’s fight against oil theft and pledge our continued support, particularly against maritime-related crimes,” Nkot said.
He expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for the medical outreach, describing it as a “historic and commendable gesture.”
The Commanding Officer of the Naval Outpost Ikuru, Commander Adams Kajola, said the medical outreach aimed to provide free medical services and improve the wellbeing of the community.
The outreach included blood pressure checks, blood sugar screening, malaria and typhoid tests, distribution of medications, and free medical consultations.
Kajola emphasised the Navy’s commitment to the wellbeing of its host communities, noting that the initiative aligned with the vision and mission of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
“The Navy remains resolute in conducting kinetic operations to safeguard national security,” he said.
The medical outreach is part of the Navy’s efforts to foster stronger relationships with the community and give back to society, particularly to the less privileged who may not have access to regular medical care.
