PDP Integral to Nigeria’s Democratic History, says Sule Lamido

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is an integral part of Nigeria’s democratic history and that the continued existence of the party is tied to the country’s survival.
Lamido, a founding member of the PDP, made this statement on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm programme.
Lamido warned that if the PDP collapses, Nigeria would breed an emperor as president.
“If the PDP collapses, Nigeria will collapse. Where there is no opposition, then there will be an emperor.
”When the party collapses, then you have an emperor all over Nigeria, and all emperors are destroyed by their greed,” he said.
He added that the PDP was Nigeria’s history in the last 25 years, and if the party collapses, it would be Nigeria’s history that collapses.
The former governor emphasised the importance of the PDP as a focal opposition party to keep the current administration in check.
“More than anybody, Tinubu needs PDP to be chasing him, to be on his toes, but when it collapses, nobody will be chasing him; he will be chasing himself,” he said.
Lamido also criticised Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, for distributing rice in the North.
He alleged that Seyi Tinubu is cashing in on the poverty created by his father’s administration.
“You look at a person and then look at his character and what he stands for. Was he there two years ago, if he is so benevolent?” Lamido asked.
With the 2027 presidential election approaching, Lamido’s statement highlights the importance of the PDP’s continued existence in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
The party’s survival is seen as crucial to maintaining a balance of power and ensuring accountability in government.
