Bayern sign Jonathan Tah from Leverkusen on free transfer

Bayern Munich has signed German international defender Jonathan Tah on a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.
The 29-year-old has committed to a four-year deal, keeping him at the Allianz Arena until 2029.
“I’m very happy to be at Bayern. I want to take on responsibility here and work hard every day so that we’re successful as a team and win lots of trophies together,” Tah expressed his excitement in a club statement.
Tah spent a decade at Leverkusen, leading the team to an unbeaten league and cup double in the 2023-24 season.
Bayern initially showed interest in signing Tah in the summer of 2024 but refused to meet Leverkusen’s asking price.
With Eric Dier’s departure to Monaco, Bayern needed a top-notch centre-back, and Tah fits the bill perfectly.
Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund welcomed Tah, saying, “In Jonathan Tah, we’ve acquired a player with international experience and quality who won’t need much time to establish himself in our defence.
::He’ll be a good and important addition for us with his technical qualities as well as his manner and the way he leads.”
Tah has been an integral part of the Germany national team, starting all but one international game since September 2023.
He’ll be part of Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for the Nations League finals, where Germany faces Portugal in the semi-finals on June 4.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s transfer interest in Tah’s former teammate Florian Wirtz seemed to have cooled off, with Wirtz likely moving to Liverpool due to “concrete interest” from the Premier League winners.
