Mokwa Flood: Death toll rises to 153 as 2 more bodies recovered

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed the recovery of two additional bodies from the devastating flood disaster in Mokwa town, bringing the total death toll to 153.
Dr Ibrahim Hussaini, Overseeing Director General of NSEMA, disclosed this in Minna on Sunday.
”The two bodies were recovered late on Saturday under the bridge and were buried in the early hours of Sunday, ” he said.
The flood incident occurred on Wednesday morning after a heavy downpour on Tuesday night, which had claimed 153 lives so far, with property worth millions of naira destroyed.
The flood also washed away part of the Mokwa bridge that linked the North with the South West, leaving motorists and passengers stranded on both sides.
A Federal delegation led by Mohammad Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, was sent by President Bola Tinubu to commiserate with the Niger government over the incident.
Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with NSEMA, with support from the community, were conducting search and rescue operations.
The NSEMA and other agencies are working to address the aftermath of the flood and provide support to those affected.
