New ICAN president unveils agenda for integrity, innovation

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has inaugurated Dr Haruna Yahaya as its 61st President.
The hybrid investiture, held in Lagos, was attended by governors, federal lawmakers, traditional rulers, and accounting and financial associations from various countries.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Haruna Yahaya committed to upholding transparency, integrity, and discipline, expressing his optimism that these values would bring hope to the nation.
He extended his gratitude to past presidents of the ICAN for their visionary leadership and sacrifices, which have contributed significantly to the institute’s growth and progress.
Yahaya highlighted the significance of the 61st presidential year, which coincided with ICAN’s Diamond Jubilee celebration, marking 60 years of excellence, ethical commitment, and national impact.
He emphasised ICAN’s crucial role in human capital development, shaping professionals who embody integrity, skill, and courage
During the investiture, Yahaya took his oath of office and unveiled the theme for his presidential year:
“ICAN at 60, Powering a New Era of Integrity and Innovation.”
He outlined his administration’s 10-point agenda, which includes initiatives such as digital transformation, youth empowerment, capacity building, and education, among others.
These efforts aim to propel ICAN forward and reinforce its position as a leader in the accounting profession.
“I pledge commitment to transparency, integrity, and discipline, which offered hope for the nation.
“The theme of my presidential year is: ‘ICAN at 60, powering a new era of integrity and innovation’.
“During this presidential year, we are embarking on a bold and forward-looking journey to fully digitalize ICAN examination process, ” he said.
The immediate Past President of ICAN, Davidson Alaribe, congratulated Dr Yahaya and highlighted the achievements of his administration.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration and urged Dr Yahaya to continue the tradition.
The traditional ruler of Nupe Kingdom, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, congratulated the new ICAN leadership and prayed for Allah’s guidance and wisdom for them.
He pledged the support of the royal kingdom to Dr. Yahaya’s administration.
“We thank ICAN for its contributions to national development.
“We pledge our support to Haruna’s administration, ” he prayed.
ICAN plays a crucial role in human capital development, molding generations of professionals defined by integrity, skill, and courage.
The institute’s 60th anniversary marks a milestone in its history, and Dr. Yahaya’s administration is expected to build on this legacy.
