1,354 affected, 4,534 displaced in Mokwa flood disaster – Niger Govt

A recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State, has directly affected 1,354 people, with 4,534 individuals displaced from their homes.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Murtala Bagana, disclosed this on Wednesday during a visit by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
He said 4,534 individuals were displaced from their homes, with 458 households impacted.
”A total of 265 buildings were destroyed or severely damaged, two major roads were affected, and five key bridges collapsed, including the vital Goodwill Bridge along Mokwa-Jaba road, ”he said.
The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Traditional Council, Yahaya Abubakar, commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for visiting the affected communities and thanked President Bola Tinubu for directing the immediate release of interventions.
Despite government efforts, many victims continue to face challenges, including poor conditions in temporary shelters and inadequate food.
Over 200 bodies have been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to provide relief materials to the displaced residents.
