Senator’s phone number cloned, used for impersonation

A law firm representing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has written to the Director of the National Cybercrimes Centre, Nigeria Police Force, to report that her official mobile phone number has been cloned and is being used by unknown persons to impersonate her.
The letter dated June 4 and signed by Michael Jonathan Numa, SAN, FPD.UK
Managing Partner, said that the cloned number was being used to make unsolicited calls and deliver audio messages, potentially breaching national security.
The letter also stated that several prominent individuals have received suspicious calls from the cloned number, including, Ifedayo Adams Adedipe, SAN, claiming to be from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, with the caller claiming someone would contact him shortly.
”Area Commander of Maitama Area Command, received a call from the senator’s number, which was allegedly not initiated by her.
”Seun Okinbaloye, received a call from the senator’s number, with the caller using voice mimicry techniques to replicate her speech patterns.
”Other targeted individuals: Honourable Emmanuel Ekon, Senator Ben Obi, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, and Allen Onyema, CEO of Air Peace, ” letter stated.
The law firm therefore requested the National Cybercrimes Centre to initiate a full-scale investigation into the cloning and impersonation, including forensic analysis of suspicious activities linked to the senator’s phone line.
The incident highlighted the need for urgent action to protect the senator’s identity and prevent further misuse of her cloned phone number.
