UniPort mourns death of student, calls for investigation

The University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of its student, Godwin Akpakpan, a 300-level Computer Science undergraduate, who was allegedly shot dead by a security operative in an off-campus incident.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the institution through its Head, Information, Publications and Public Relations, Dr Sam Kpenu, expressed deep sorrow over the death of the student.
The institution called for a thorough investigation into the killing of Akpakpan, who was allegedly shot dead by a security operative in an off-campus incident.Although the tragic incident occurred outside the university premises, Uniport stressed its concern and commitment to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the event.
The university extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
UniPort reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of all students and staff, promising to take necessary steps to prevent similar incidents.
UniPort urged students and staff to remain calm and allow security agencies to conduct their investigations without interference.
The Rivers State Police Command was yet to respond to inquiries regarding the alleged shooting incident.
