Arewa forum urges President Tinubu to prioritise electricity in Northern Nigeria

The Arewa Forum for Unity and Progress of Northern Nigeria has written to President Bola Tinubu, reminding him of the importance of electricity provision in the region.
The forum in a letter signed by its Chairman, Nasiru Umar (Chakis) Dutsinma dated June 9, 2025, emphasised the need for the administration to prioritise electricity supply in Northern Nigeria.
The forum highlighted the significance of electricity for the development and progress of Northern Nigeria, citing the president’s previous statements on the matter during the 2023 election campaigns.
”As you may recall, during the 2023 election campaigns, you emphasised the importance of electricity provision for the development of our great nation.
”In line with this, the Arewa Forum for Unity and Progress of Northern Nigeria would like to remind your administration that the lack of electricity in our region remains a significant challenge, ” the letter stated.
The forum noted that the lack of electricity in the region may impact the expectations of the people and communities in Northern Nigeria regarding the president’s second term bid.
”The Arewa Unity Forum believes that the absence of electricity in our communities will undoubtedly impact the expectations of the people and communities in Northern Nigeria regarding your administration’s second term bid, ” the letter stated
The forum urged the administration to take concrete steps to address the challenges facing the region, emphasising that electricity provision would help to improve the lives of the people as well as demonstrate the president’s commitment to the region’s development.
The forum also noted that it has put the administration on notice, stating that it would be evaluating the president’s progress in addressing the challenges facing Northern Nigeria.
The forum hoped that the president would take their reminder seriously and prioritise electricity provision in the region.
”The Arewa Unity Forum is watching closely the actions of your administration and will be evaluating your progress in addressing the challenges facing Northern Nigeria.
”We hope that you will take our reminder seriously and take necessary steps to provide electricity to our communities, ” added.
