A spectator died after falling from the central tier of the stands during the Nations League final between Portugal and Spain in Munich.
The incident occurred during the first period of extra time, and paramedics and police rushed to the scene to assist the fan.
A UEFA spokesperson said there had been a “medical emergency” and confirmed that a fan had “sadly” died during the match.
The fan fell into the press box in the lower tier, approximately eight meters below.
Despite medical efforts, the fan sadly died during the match.
Both Portugal coach Roberto Martinez and Spain coach Luis de la Fuente expressed their condolences, with de la Fuente stating that the incident reminded everyone of what is truly important in life.
Representatives from both teams echoed the sentiments, saying the death casts a shadow over the victory.
