Gov. Bago announces N8bn relief package for flood victims

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has announced a comprehensive relief package worth N8 billion to support victims of the devastating flood disaster in the Mokwa Local Government Area.
The package includes N1 billion in cash and 50 trucks of assorted grains to aid displaced persons.
The governor announced this during his visit to the temporary camp at Tiffin Madza Primary School, where hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) were currently being hosted.
The governor also announced the award of the N7 billion Mokwa-Raba Road project, including the construction of four new bridges, to improve infrastructure and prevent future isolation.
He said the Ministry of Lands has been directed to issue a Certificate of Occupancy to the Federal Government to facilitate the permanent resettlement of affected persons.
While the current IDP camp remained a temporary arrangement until the end of the month, he assured that each displaced family would receive financial assistance for rent as they await the completion of permanent housing.
Bago assured the victims that the government was fully committed to restoring comfort and normalcy to their lives.
Bago also cautioned residents against building on waterways, warning that such practices contributed to the severity of flood disasters.
The flood resulted in 206 deaths, 82 injuries, 458 homes destroyed, 180 hectares of farmland submerged, and 3,534 people displaced.
