2 injured as tanker explodes on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

A devastating tanker explosion occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the NASFAT axis on Wednesday, leaving two people injured and six vehicles burnt.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident and provided updates on the situation.
He said that the tanker, laden with petroleum products, overturned and spilled its contents before catching fire, causing massive traffic congestion in the area.
Akinbiyi said six vehicles were burnt in the explosion, including four trucks, one bus, and one Toyota Camry.
He said two male adults sustained burns and were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu for treatment.
Initially, the injured were attended to by the Ogun State Accident and Emergency Services (OGSAES) before being evacuated to the hospital.
The explosion caused significant traffic congestion on both sides of the expressway, with motorists coming from Lagos diverted through Christ Embassy Camp.
TRACE deployed rescue teams to the scene, working to mitigate the disaster and restore order.
Firefighters battled to extinguish the fire and prevent further escalation
Florence Okpe, Education Officer of the Ogun State Sector Command of FRSC, also confirmed the explosion and stated that a rescue team was on the ground.
