China establishes cultural exchange centre at UNIPORT

The Chinese Government has inaugurated a cultural exchange centre, “Window to China,” at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) in Nigeria.
Ms Yan Yuqing, Chinese Consul-General in Lagos, inaugurated the facility, according to a statement issued on Friday in Port Harcourt by UNIPORT’s spokesman, Dr Sammy Kpenu.
Yuqing stated that the establishment of the centre marked a significant milestone in educational and cultural cooperation between China and Nigeria
According to her, the centre was created to strengthen mutual understanding between the two nations through cultural

Earlier, Professor Owunari Georgewill, UNIPORT Vice Chancellor, expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government for its sustained interest in Nigeria and Africa.
He noted that China’s increasing global influence highlighted the centre’s potential to broaden the university’s intellectual and cultural horizons.
“This Window to China Centre represents a timely and forward-thinking approach to deepening our partnership.’
The center showcases Chinese culture, art, and innovation, it offers Chinese language courses for students and faculty, host seminars and workshops on topics of mutual interest, organises cultural events to promote Nigeria-China relations
The establishment of the Window to China Centre marks a significant milestone in Nigeria-China relations, with potential to broaden UNIPORT’s intellectual and cultural horizons.
