Vishwash Ramesh, the only survivor of Air India crash

Vishwash Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national, is the sole survivor of the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash that occurred on June 12, 2025, in Ahmedabad, India.
The plane, carrying 242 people, including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian, crashed into a residential area shortly after takeoff, resulting in 265 fatalities.
Ramesh, seated in 11A, miraculously survived the crash and recounted his terrifying experience.
“Everything happened in front of me, and even I couldn’t believe how I managed to come out alive from that,” he said from his hospital bed.
According to Ramesh, the plane experienced trouble 30 seconds into the flight, with a loud noise and sudden speed increase before crashing into a hostel.
Ramesh believed his proximity to the ground and the space created when the door broke allowed him to escape.
“I unfastened my seatbelt and tried to escape, and I did. I think the side I was on was not facing the hostel,” he explained.
He sustained impact injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet, and his left hand was slightly burnt due to the fire.
Authorities have set up DNA testing to identify the victims and are investigating the cause of the crash.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ramesh at the hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.
Ramesh’s brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, was also on board the flight, but unfortunately, he did not survive.
