I’ll address defection speculation at the right time – Gov. Diri

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa, has stated that he will address speculation about his alleged plan to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the right time.
The governor made this known on Saturday, when he received
member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rodney Ambaiowei, other leaders and stakeholders from his constituency on a thank-you visit at his country home, Sampou, in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state,
The governor said that he would put the speculation to rest at the right time.
Diri said his presence at the recent inauguration of a section of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road in Lagos fueled the rumor, but he is not bothered by the speculation.
The governor emphasised that his priority was to bring development to Bayelsa State and the Ijaw nation.
Diri noted that any decision to move or stay would be based on the interest of the people, not his personal interest.
“If for any reason there has to be a movement, you are the people that will advise me because you voted for me.
”The decision to move or not will be made based on the interest of Ijaw nation and Bayelsa State and not my personal interest only,”said Governor Diri.
”When the right time comes, you will hear from us,”he added.
He commended the people of Southern Ijaw for appreciating his Prosperity Government’s support and developmental projects in their area, urging them to remain united and focus on development.
The delegation, led by Rodney Ambaiowei, lauded the governor’s support and presented his two-year mid-term scorecard.
Other notable members of the delegation included Senator Konbowei Benson, Senator Moses Cleopas, and several House of Assembly members representing the area.
The national chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Boladei Igali, also commended the governor for his support to the people of Southern Ijaw and praised the ongoing Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie senatorial road project.
