NAF fast-tracks acquisition of AH-1Z helicopters to bolster operations

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken significant steps to fast-track the acquisition of 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters, manufactured by Bell Textron.
This move is part of the NAF’s sustained efforts to enhance its operational capabilities and combat effectiveness.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, led a high-level delegation to the United States for a Programme Management Review Meeting on the acquisition of the 12 helicopters.
The meeting, held in San Diego, California, brought together top officials from the U.S. Government and representatives of Bell Textron to discuss the acquisition process.
The CAS extended appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support and strategic guidance, noting that the progress made in the AH-1Z acquisition project reflected the President’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
The CAS visited the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367 (HMLA-367) and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39 (MALS-39) to inspect the AH-1Z helicopters and engage with senior officers on best practices for operation, sustainment, and logistics support.
The visit provided a unique opportunity for the NAF to understood best practices for the operation and maintenance of the AH-1Z platform.
The NAF is committed to expediting the procurement process, ensuring the platforms are delivered in the shortest possible time.
The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to the effective and responsible deployment of all acquired air assets in the ongoing fight against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements.
