Prince Chris Abasi Eyo Resigns as Governor’s Media Aide, Declines to Join APC

By Solomon Okpo
Crown Prince Chris Abasi Eyo, Honorary Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, has resigned his position, citing his refusal to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter addressed to the Governor dated June 16, 2025, Prince Eyo expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve in various capacities under Governor Eno’s administration, including as spokesperson of the Umo Eno/Akon Eyakenyi Governorship Campaign Organisation.
“It was a rare privilege to serve in that capacity as we traversed the length and breadth of our dear State, championing the noble ideals of the ARISE Agenda,” he wrote.
Prince Eyo’s resignation comes in response to a reported directive from the Governor urging political allies to either “defect with me or resign.” While acknowledging the Governor’s strategic political decision, Eyo stated that he preferred to remain loyal to the PDP.
“While the decision is clearly strategic, it is bound to leave in its wake, a trail of political jetsams and flotsams. Therefore… I have chosen to become a jetsam of the very ship I co-built,” he wrote.
Describing his choice as one guided by principle and political conviction, Eyo emphasized his commitment to the PDP, asserting that “all politics is local.”
He concluded his letter with best wishes for Governor Eno, expressing hope that the administration would continue to enjoy success in governance.
Prince Chris Abasi Eyo is a respected media practitioner and public relations professional, widely recognized for his communications role in the last gubernatorial campaign. His resignation adds to the unfolding political recalibration in Akwa Ibom, following Governor Eno’s recent alignment with the APC.
