Wike lauds completion of $470m Abuja water supply project

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has expressed excitement over the completion of the $470m Greater Abuja Water Supply Project, eight years after it was awarded.
The project was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu to celebrate his second year in office on Monday.
Wike announced plans to provide water to residents of FCT satellite towns, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.
Wike thanked Tinubu for his support and leadership, assuring him that the project would be a testament to his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.
Wike also thanked the National Assembly for their tireless support, describing it as “very encouraging”.
Tinubu described the project as a “monumental effort” that would ensure safe, sustainable, and sufficient water for the people of Abuja.
He emphasized that water is a basic human right and a foundation for public health, urban development, and economic growth
The project was awarded in 2017 under a partnership with the African Development Initiative, with the Chinese government providing 85 per cent of the funds and the Federal Government and FCT providing 15 per cent.
The project was completed in just two years, following Tinubu’s directive to improve water supply in the city.
The project will significantly improve access to potable water supply in the city, benefiting homes, institutions, and communities.
