Senate to monitor Rivers 2025 budget implementation

The Senate has pledged to monitor the sector-by-sector implementation of the 2025 Rivers State budget to ensure transparency, accountability, and meaningful development.
Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Chairman of the Senate Ad hoc Committee on Oversight of Rivers Emergency, made the commitment during the defence of the 2025 budget by the Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.
Bamidele emphasised that the committee’s mandate goes beyond evaluating budget figures to ensuring faithful implementation and tracking resource utilization project by project and sector by sector.
He also assured that the committee would assess budget performance, monitor disbursements, execution timelines, and delivery outcomes to guarantee transparency and accountability.
The senator further highlighted that the 2025 budget has a significant focus on capital projects, with N1.72 trillion allocated for capital expenditure, representing 72.43 per cent of the total expenditure.
He emphasised the importance of people-centered governance, particularly during times of political uncertainty and emergency governance.
Ibas, in his presentation, stated that the budget reflected a strategic repositioning of Rivers State for sustainable growth, social cohesion, and a renewed contract between government and its people.
He noted that the budget aligns with the strategic objectives outlined in the Rivers Development Plan of 2017-2027 and is designed to address the needs of the people.
