PDP NWC insists on June 30 NEC meeting, denies Anyanwu’s reinstatement

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has insisted that the party’s 100th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting would proceed as scheduled on June 30.
The PDP NWC, in a statement on Wednesday, also insisted that Samuel Anyanwu has not been reinstated as the party’s National Secretary.
The PDP Acting Chairman, Umar Damagum, had announced the cancellation of the NEC meeting and Anyanwu’s reinstatement in a press briefing.
However, the NWC, in a statement signed by 11 members, denounced Damagum’s pronouncement, citing the party’s constitution.
The NWC emphasised that only the NEC has the power to make decisions on matters such as the meeting schedule and Anyanwu’s status.
The party’s constitution (Section 31 (3)) stated that NEC’s resolutions were binding on all organs, officers, chapters, and members.
The NWC confirmed that the 100th NEC meeting would hold on June 30, as previously scheduled.
The statement was signed by 11 members of NEC, including Taofeek Arapaja (Deputy National Chairman – South), Setonji Koshoedo (Acting National Secretary), Ahmed Yayari Mohammed (National Treasurer), Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel (National Auditor), and Debo Ologunagba (National Publicity Secretary).
Others were Woyengikuro Daniel (National Financial Secretary) Ali Odefa (National Vice Chairman , South East), Emmanuel Ogidi (Caretaker Committee Chairman , South South), Mrs. Amina Darasimi D Bryhm (National Woman Leader), Senator Hayatu Bello Gwarzo, and Ajisafe Kamoru Toyese (National Vice Chairman – South West).
The development highlighted the ongoing crisis within the PDP, with different factions vying for control.
The NWC’s stance underscored the importance of adhering to the party’s constitution and NEC’s resolutions.
