Nasarawa Gov rejects claims of harbouring Benue attackers

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has denied allegations that the state harbors herdsmen who attack Benue State.
Govermor Sule, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, refuted claims that Nasarawa is a gateway for attackers, citing the state’s limited cattle rearing activities.
“I don’t think Nasarawa has enough Fulanis that we can say that (it is harboring anybody),” Sule said. “Nasarawa is not known for dairy or cattle farming… We have enough trouble to manage.”
Sule acknowledged that the accusation has been ongoing, even before he assumed office. He recalled meeting with former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom to discuss the issue and find a solution.
The governor emphasised that his government is working to secure the state’s borders, including acquiring security vehicles for border patrol.
Scores of residents were killed and over 3,000 displaced in an attack on Yelwata community in Benue State.
26 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings.
