Rivers wins NLNG science quiz competition, promoting renewable energy solutions

The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has concluded the 2025 science quiz competition, themed ‘Renewable Energy Solutions,’ with Community Secondary School, Igbo-Etche, emerging as the winner of the grand finale.
The competition featured a vibrant intellectual contest among some of the brightest science students in Rivers State.
The students competed in a three-phase contest comprising the Championship, Science Project Exhibition, and Grand Finale.
Comprehensive Secondary School, Oginigba, secured first place, while Bonny National Grammar School (Senior) finished as runner-up.
Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Bori, clinched first position, followed by Niger Delta Science School, Obio/Akpor, and Government Secondary School, Abua.
NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Mrs Sophia Horsfall, highlighted the company’s commitment to advancing a greener energy future.
She emphasised that the competition was designed to prepare students for a future shaped by scientific and technological advancements, and to inspire the scientists, engineers, and innovators of tomorrow.
According to Horsfall, the global transition towards cleaner and greener energy sources requires a deeper understanding of the energy sector.
“NLNG is proud to be leading this shift by exporting LNG, a cleaner fossil fuel, and supplying LPG to Nigerian homes.
“Through this quiz competition, we are investing in education and inspiring the scientists, engineers, and innovators of tomorrow,” she said.
She underscored the critical role of science in driving societal progress, noting the competition’s positive impact on more than 200 public schools since its inception.
“Science is the heartbeat of progress, and that is why NLNG support platforms like this where young minds can discover their potential when given the opportunity to shine,” she said.
The competition has had a positive impact on over 200 public schools since its inception in 2008.
The event provided students with a platform to present practical solutions to scientific and environmental challenges, deepening their engagement in STEM fields.
