PDP clarifies NEC meeting postponement, schedules national caucus 

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a statement clarifying the status of its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and announcing an Expanded National Caucus Meeting.
The statement signed by the Acting National Chairman of the party, Amb. Umar IDamagum on Sunday, made available to HensardTimes, states that NEC meeting was postponed for statutory reasons.
According to the statement, the NEC meeting has been postponed for statutory reasons, and not as an affront to the decision of the 99th NEC meeting.
It reads further, ” The National Working Committee of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held its 601st NWC Meeting this evening in the NWC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja.
”The meeting was duly scheduled on Friday, 27th of June, 2025 by the National Secretary for today, Sunday, 29th of June, 2025 by 4pm.
”However, the meeting started by 5:02pm and ended an hour later with 9 out of 16 current members of the NWC in attendance and this included, the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary, respectively.”
‘The statement added, ”The 601st NWC meeting made the following key decisions: ”That in line with the Party Leadership’s consideration of the INEC advise, Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the National Secretary in the overall interest of the Party
”To hold a National Caucus Meeting with due (statutory) notice issued by the National Secretary
”The National Caucus Meeting is scheduled for Monday, 30th of June, 2025 in the NEC Hall by 2pm with broader (expanded) stakeholders in participation, ” the statement added.
The party also highlighted the powers and functions of the National Chairman, as outlined in the PDP Constitution (2017 As Amended), including summoning and presiding over organ meetings and providing firm and effective leadership.
The National Secretary is also empowered to issue notices of all organ meetings.
”For the record, some of the powers and functions of the National Chairman are to: ‘Summon” and “Preside” over all the Organs Meetings – See the PDP Constitution (2017 As Amended) – 35(1)(a); (c) “Provide firm and effective leadership and direct activities of the Party under the overall supervision of NEC.
”Note please: in the instance of the National Chairman summoning meetings, the National Secretary under his powers and functions is “…Cause to be issued notices of all the Organs Meetings.” See 36(1)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2017 As Amended).
The statement noted that the PDP has scheduled an Expanded National Caucus Meeting for Monday, June 30, 2025, with broader stakeholders in participation.
The meeting according to the statement, which will hold at 2 pm in the NEC Hall, is designed to provide a platform for explanation and review of issues affecting the party.
It stated that Invited guests for the meeting,include national caucus statutory members, deputy national officers, Board of Trustees members, and all state chairpersons.
The statement called on all stakeholders to prioritise the party’s survival, stabilisation, and rebuilding of Nigeria.
The party urged its members and supporters to ignore contrary news reports and focus on the scheduled Expanded National Caucus Meeting.
The statement reiterated the commitment PDP to its constitutional processes and democratic principles.
Assured that the upcoming Caucus Meeting was expected to provide a crucial platform for discussion and decision-making.
