Edo Govt. launches initiative to empower girl child

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Edo, Chief Olabisi Idaomi, said the State Government had launched a broad initiative to empower the girl child.
Chief Idaomi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.
Idaomi said that the government’s sole objective is to educate them on their right and safety.
She said the initiative also included raising awareness about Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and early exploitation.
She emphasised the importance of girls embracing leadership roles, making informed decisions, and knowing their right.
She also highlighted the remarkable progress being made by the ministry in empowering the girl child, adding that women were increasingly taking the center stage and assuming leadership roles.
The commissioner also underscored the importance of mentorship as part of empowerment for the girl child.
She further said, “the leaders of tomorrow start today. So, when you catch them young at this age, they will do exploits and become wonderful in the future.”
Idaomi expressed the ministry’s willingness to partner with any organisation on girl child empowerment and related initiatives.
