Sen. Natasha found guilty of contempt, ordered to pay N5m fine

The Federal High Court in Abuja has fined Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan N5 million for contempt of court.
Justice Binta Nyako found the lawmaker guilty of violating a court order by posting a satirical apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on her Facebook page on April 27, 2025.
The court’s decision came after Akpabio filed a contempt application, arguing that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s post breached an earlier order restraining parties from commenting on the case.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel claimed the post referred to separate allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio, but Justice Nyako ruled it was linked to the suspension matter.
The contempt ruling stems from a protracted feud between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan, who accused the Senate President of sexual harassment and abuse of office
Akpoti-Uduaghan is also facing two separate cases of cybercrime and defamation in Abuja courts.
The senator’s suspension from the Senate was upheld by the court, but Justice Nyako urged the Senate to reconsider the suspension period.
