Delta Speaker hails students’ world debate championship win

The Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Dennis Guwor, has said that the triumph of Delta State Students who represented Nigeria in the World School Debate Championship held in Doha, Qatar, has again brought pride and honour to the government and people of the state.
Rt. Hon. Guwor who was reacting to the news of Nigeria emerging the champion at the finals of the World Debate Championship, beating the State of Chicago USA, and host country Qatar, said the exceptional achievement and its significance for Delta State and Nigeria as a nation, is huge.
The speaker in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nkem Nwaeke, lauded the brilliant students who represented Nigeria, and proudly, Delta State.
Guwor said that the students have proven that with preparation, discipline, and vision, young Nigerians could compete and win at the highest levels internationally.
He stressed that the outstanding achievement was not only a testament to the intellectual prowess and oratorical skill of the students, but also a reflection of the quality of education and commitment to excellence that Delta is known for.
The Speaker on behalf of the State House of Assembly, congratulated President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and indeed Nigerians , on the victory of the Students for Nigeria.
He also said the House was looking forward to welcoming the victorious team back to the State as true ambassadors of excellence and inspiration to millions of Nigerian families.
Guwor assured that the State Assembly would continue to support policies and initiatives that promote youth development, education, and excellence in all forms.
The victorious Nigerian team, include, Master Wisdom Chukwuma, Government College, Ughelli, Ughelli North, Otorvo Uyoyou, Alegbo Secondary School, Effurun, Uvwie, Abraham Ihonor, Okpaka Secondary School, Okpaka, Udu, Ekhamateh Splendour, Government Model Secondary School, Asaba, Oshimili South, and Alika Daniel of Utagba-Ogbe Grammar School, Kwale, Ndokwa West local government area, all in Delta State.
The team was led to Doha, Qatar by the Chairman, Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Samuel Mariere.
The youngsters won 2-1 in the first round against host Qatar, and then 3-0 in the final round, bringing the total 5-1 to emerge the champions.
