Gov. Adeleke denies defection rumors, affirms loyalty to PDP

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun, has denied rumours of his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming his loyalty to the party.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, on Saturday, Governor Adeleke assured the people of Osun and Nigerians that he remained a committed member and leader of the PDP in the state.
Adeleke dismissed speculation about his possible defection, stating that his focus remained on delivering good governance and fulfilling the PDP’s 5-point agenda for Osun.
His words: “Over the last few hours, I have been inundated with calls regarding rumours of a possible defection. I want to assure the good people of Osun State and Nigerians at large; I remain a loyal member and the leader of the People’s Democratic Party in Osun State.
“My focus remains on delivering good governance and fulfilling our 5-point agenda for Osun people. Please disregard the fake news and continue to support our mission for a better Osun State,” he stated.
This is not the first time Adeleke has had to debunk defection rumors, having done so in May during a meeting with key stakeholders.
The PDP is facing internal challenges, including an unresolved leadership dispute over the position of National Secretary and recent defections to the APC.
Several PDP governors, including Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, have defected to the APC in recent weeks.
Former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar is leading coalition talks with other politicians and stakeholders, aiming to mount a formidable opposition to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
