Olubadan of Ibadanland dies at 90

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at 90.
A family source who confirmed this, noted that the monarch died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, just two days after celebrating his 90th birthday and on the eve of the first anniversary of his coronation as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Oba Olakulehin was installed as Olubadan on July 12, 2024, following the death of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.
During his brief reign, he promoted unity and upheld the traditions of the ancient Yoruba kingdom.
He was widely respected for his commitment to peace and development in Ibadanland.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, mourned the monarch’s death, promising a befitting burial.
“The government will stay with the family and play whatever roles we are supposed to play, including giving Kabiyesi a befitting burial,” Makinde said.
Former Oyo State Governor Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja is next in line to ascend the throne, following the traditional succession arrangements of the Olubadan chieftaincy system.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Olubadan-in-Council and the Oyo State Government.
