Dangote Refinery slashes petrol price again to N820/litre

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the ex-depot price of petrol from N840 to N820 per liter, effective July 8, 2025.
This marks the second price cut within a week, following a previous reduction from N880 to N840 on June 30, 2025.
In an update, spokesman for the refinery, Chief Tony Chiejina, confirmed the N20 marginal reduction, which is expected to lead to lower pump price across the country.
Chiejina said the new ex-depot price of N820 took effect from Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Filling stations with special agreements with Dangote Refinery, such as MRS Oil & Gas, Ardova Plc, and Heyden, were likely to reduce their pump prices further below N880 to reflect the decrease in ex-depot price.
This move aimed to pass the savings to consumers and stimulate demand.
Starting August 15, 2025, Dangote Refinery would begin direct delivery of petrol and diesel to filling stations, industrial facilities, and high-volume consumers.
This initiative eliminates transportation costs for fuel marketers and large-scale users, potentially reducing pump prices and inflation.
Recall that on Sunday, June 15, 2025, the refinery announced the free distribution of petrol and diesel to marketers, dealers, and other large users across the country.
The 650,000 barrels-per-day capacity refinery said it has procured 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers for the take-off of the initiative on August 15, 2025.
It also offered a credit facility to those purchasing a minimum of 500,000 litres allowing them to obtain an additional 500,000 litres on credit for two weeks, under a bank guarantee.
However, petrol marketers and truck owners have criticised Dangote Refinery’s expansion moves.
They argued that it would negatively impact depot owners, truck operators, and retail outlets that have special deals for direct delivery of petrol and diesel to large corporations and multinationals.
The refinery has invested over N720 billion in 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks to support this initiative.
