A housewife, Mrs. Koko Umo, was on Wednesday docked in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly beating up a hair dressing salon Administration officer, Blessing Gimba.
The police charged the defendant with criminal force, intimidation, assault and causing hurt.
The prosecuting counsel, Simpa Ibrahim, alleged that the defendant went to a salon at Wuye where her daughter was making her hair on June 16.
Ibrahim alleged that the defendant beat up the administrative officer, injured her left eye, seized one Point of Sale machine (POS) and one cellphone bag.
The offence, he said contravened the provisions of sections 265,397 and 246 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel Udoh Ekwevi made a bail application pending the defendant’s trial citing sections 158 & 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act( ACJA ).
Ekwevi said that the defendant is a mother and would provide a reasonable surety if bail is granted.
The prosecution however objected saying that the defendant was likely to tamper with investigations due to the seriousness of the alleged offence which showed violence on her part.
The Magistrate, Farida Ibrahim granted the defendant N500,000 bail with one surety whom must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Ibrahim ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means of livelihood and submit his National Identification Number (NIN).
